Banner Advertising Post Y2K - Can It Still Build Web Site Traffic?

Banner advertising was first used in the early 90’s as a means to increase web site traffic. Global Network Navigator (GNN), one of the first web sites in cyberspace, sold the very first clickable banner advertisement to a law firm in 1993. Within a very short time, Hotwired.com was selling banner advertising in large quantities. AT&T and Coors were the first big name corporate clients to buy into banner ads in 1994. For the record, Hotwired.com also coined the phrase “banner ad” and became the very first company to release click through reports to clients.

These types of sales became the primary tool behind any successful online advertising campaign. Sites fortunate enough to have considerable web site traffic were able to lure in advertising clients with the promise of high volume banner ad impressions on the most popular sites online. Sales reps were able to easily draw in new business despite the fact that banner advertising packages weren’t necessarily a bargain. There was a demand. It was pretty much a given that people would pay a pretty penny to advertise on sites with a reputation for consistent web site traffic.

This approach to banner advertising sales worked like a charm, providing sites with plenty of revenue and an economic base for their web site. Sites had more money for design enhancements and advertising funds, which increased their web site traffic, guaranteeing them higher banner advertising sales. This fairytale built mansions for young entrepreneurs until 2000 when the dot com industry’s bubble ruptured and banner advertising as we knew it literally crashed!

Banner advertising is still a practical modern day method of Internet marketing but the value of the ads are no longer what they were at the Internet’s dot com peak. While this news may sound unwelcoming, the great news is the ad rates are no longer ridiculously overpriced and more people can actually afford banner advertising, reaping the rewards of increased web site traffic!

This is also a lot more visually stimulating than it was in the past and can be used in other ways besides increasing your presence on the web and your web site traffic. Not only can you profit from turning your web site traffic into paid subscribers, someone that buys your product, pays for your services, etc. but you can also build revenue by selling banner ad space on your own site or earn commission from a banner advertising affiliate program. This type of banner advertising will have you selling products and earning commission whenever a click through on your site turns into a purchase on the other site. We see this method of banner advertising everyday whenever we visit a web site and notice banner ads for books, DVD’s or music available through Amazon.com or a similar site.

So, in closing, while the Internet bubble did indeed burst back in 2000, there are computers in more homes with more people online than ever before, meaning more web site traffic than ever before. Banner advertising is still a very effective way to boost your web site traffic and potentially make money as a result!

Search engine optimization – increasing website traffic through search engine rank

SEO or search engine optimization is all about enhancing the ranking of a website within a search engine’s results page. Search engine optimization provides the potential for tons of website traffic. More website traffic means more sales, more money, product or company branding and exposure. Search engine optimization done properly can have a remarkable effect on your website traffic and overall health of your online business. A website that pays attention to the finer details of search engine optimization will undoubtedly notice a huge improvement in their ranking with the major search engines, something which should not only bring in more
website traffic but hopefully more sales and revenue streams.

Search engine optimization has surpassed other Internet marketing tasks like pay per click, pay per impression, affiliate marketing, social media marketing, etc.
Search engine optimization is all about technique. It’s about the technique of fixing code so keywords are optimized and including keywords in your content, essentially making your site an open door for search engines to find and website traffic to explore.

There are a number of do-it-yourself search engine optimization techniques that you could work into your entire website. Start the process by focusing on optimizing one particular web page. Make sure that your keywords are included in the title, Meta tags, site description, and filenames. Keywords should also be scattered throughout the content.

Don’t mistake search engine optimization for e-commerce. Search engine optimization will get you listed more prominently in search engines and direct website traffic to your site. From there, it’s up to your content and the appeal of whatever it is you are selling to turn this website traffic into money.

The main instrument in search engine optimization is, of course, the use of keywords. Your main objective with search engine optimization is better keyword ranking. Research your competitors to find out what keywords worked best for them and then focus on adding your own twists to the keyword or phrases to rank over the competition in search engines. This will ultimately lead you to increased website traffic.

Another aspect of search engine optimization is link tracking. Link tracking presents you with the opportunity to identify and select possible sites that you’d like to have as a link partner. Pay special attention to sites that link to your competition as you should also want these sites to link to you to beef up your ranking in search engines, exposing you to a greater amount of potential targeted website traffic

DIY search engine optimization – building website traffic at no cost!

Search engine optimization can be a very time consuming endeavor but the kick back is huge when done properly. There is no better method of driving free website traffic to your site. This is why search engine optimization is vital for any website or business owner when it comes to fully optimizing their site to get ranked higher in search engines and pull in website traffic.

Sometimes search engine optimization will be outsourced to companies that specialize in effective optimization to improve search engine rank and website traffic. This will undoubtedly save a webmaster some time and money but learning DIY (do-it-yourself) search engine optimization is something that is extremely beneficial to any aspiring web entrepreneur looking for website traffic and sales with no monetary investment. Why pay someone for something that can be done for free?

There are several steps that you can take for better search engine optimization for your site. Perhaps the most important is including keywords in the title tag of your web page. This will help your site rank prominently by the main keyword that you expect website traffic to search for. Whenever your site has multiple pages it’s suggested that you use a different set of keywords so more keywords are optimized for search ranking and website traffic. The most important keyword should be at the very front of the tag and it’s suggested that you don’t repeat the same keyword in one title tag.

Renaming your page files is also something overlooked by many webmasters. For instance, if the name of your html page is, “workfromhome.html”, this isn’t particularly friendly for search engine optimization. A friendlier twist on this would be naming the file “work-from-home.html”, which will index better in search engines and ultimately bring you more website traffic.

Be sure to include the keywords you’d like to optimize within the Meta tags and descriptions of your page. Not only does a description rich in keywords or keyword phrases mean effective search engine optimization but a quality description should entice potential website traffic to visit your website. Your site content should also be heavy with keywords for search engine optimization.

Although it’s the most time consuming step in the process of search engine optimization, building back links through methods like article marketing to submission directories and establishing one-way, reciprocal and three way links, is important when it comes to influencing website traffic through SEO. This requires some time. The great thing about search engine optimization is you can attract website traffic at absolutely no cost, assuming you have the time and the know-how to optimize your site. Just remember that there is no shame in outsourcing a search engine optimization company if you are unable to handle the technical nature of these DIY suggestions.
